The 2016 edition of Ljubljana’s SONICA festival, titled SONIC.ARCHITECTURES, was dedicated to sound and architecture. Ever since its first edition, SONICA festival (as well as its predecessor Spring Festival Ljubljana) has been discovering and reviving unconventional spaces with sound interventions. This year’s SONICA festival took the intersections of sound and architectures into its main focus. Every artist premiered a new project or present their latest projects in a different way. That’s at least 6 premieres and 2 commissions, as well as 3 new releases on the newly established ASONIC Label. Several SHAPE artists performed: Spatial with Sally Golding, Woo & Incredible Bob presented their project Peoplemeter, Nicolas Maigret with his Resonant Architecture project, Julien Bayle as well as the audiovisual duo Nonotak. Norwegian DJ and producer Charlotte Bendiks was one of the several SHAPE artists performing at The Hague’s TodaysArt festival last weekend (23-25 Sept 2016). Her DJ sets focus on sexy dance and body music. Although her main genre is classic house, her sets are inspired and influenced by music ranging from disco to African groove and Latin beats. She is widely known for creating euphoric, hot and sweaty dance floors. Doing live vocals and percussion as well as integrating other musicians has become somewhat of a trademark for this girl – transforming the whole performance more into a happening instead of just a simple DJ set.
