The duo Jiska Huizing (NL/NO) & Rudi Valdersnes (NO) make club music for the edges of the dance floor. They mix interesting rhythms made with Valdernes’ home-made wooden percussion instruments and drum machines, with luring, curious sounds created from Huizing’s field recordings and sometimes with her electric violin and voice.
Their music together is playful and grounded in the organic. In 2018, they released their first collaboration, Drum & Trails, which finds its core in the melodies and rhythms of sheep bells. This record was followed by IDE002 in 2019, containing 4 tracks that each take place in a different location and space. Both releases are recorded live and contain experimental club music that builds on hypnotic rhythms, flirts with the electroacoustic and sometimes hints toward ambient. When playing live, Huizing & Valdersnes make use of a mix of electronic instruments, like the Vermona DRM in combination with a Pyramid sequencer and modular system, and the Ableton Push II, with the live use of Huizing’s voice and electric violin, plus a selection of Valdersnes homemade percussion instruments.
Together with Julie Silset, Huizing and Valdersnes also run the record label Ideophone Records.
