Started in 2004, and continuously held in Barreiro, Portugal, OUT.FEST is an annual festival celebrating adventurous and experimental music in all its diversity (improvised music, electronics, jazz, contemporary classical music, metal, new idioms), gathering and mapping, in its programme, music vanguard’s history, present and future.
OUT.RA, the festival organizer, is a non-profit cultural entity based in Barreiro which works at the national and local level has always been closely connected to the city’s memories and cultural heritage, celebrating both Barreiro’s former identity as a blue-collar, politically engaged city as well as its architectural features, strongly connected to heavy industry and railroads, which provide invaluable opportunities to interact with its musical programmes and events.
